Everything you need to know about Glow Hub, the Skincare for the Next Generation

By M. Borriero
Glow Hub

This week we spoke to Glow Hub, the new skincare range for the next generation which offers targeted solutions and personalised skincare routine. Their innovative vegan friendly and cruelty-free formulas blend natural active ingredients with gentle science.

How should I look after my skin as we head into Autumn?

No.1 SPF! Don’t be fooled by the grey skies. Wear SPF every day and re-apply it regularly.

No. 2 Cleanse properly. SPF, sweat and other impurities can clog pores and cause spots. Wash your face with a light milk or gel cleanser in the morning to start with a clean canvas, and double cleanse at night to really remove the day’s dirt. Go for an oil or a balm texture – Glow Hub Nourish & Hydrate Cleansing Balm is a good option to thoroughly cleanse without stripping the skin of moisture.

No. 3 Hydration. Hydration. Hydration. Wind, rain and heating that’s on and off like a light switch can really dry out skin, leaving it feeling tight + uncomfortable. The Glow Hub Nourish & Hydrate range not only smells like a tropical vacation, but it is packed with skin-loving ingredients such as Coconut and Peach, to re-hydrate, brighten and give skin its glow back. Our top pick is the Toner, used after cleansing, to lock in moisture.

What’s the first thing I should do when I get a spot?

GLOW HUB Zit Zap Wand

Ok, we know we know – everyone does it. But squeezing a spot can further inflame your skin as well as increase the risk of scarring. Our advice? Apply a hot compress to help the pimple drain naturally and follow up with Glow Hub’s Zit Zap Wand underneath your moisturiser. It contains tea tree, salicylic acid and hyaluronic acid to help you kiss goodbye to those pesky pimples.

How do I find out my skin type?

Makeup sliding off your face or a midday glow? Regular breakouts + large, visible pores…sounds like your skin = Oily. (Time for Purify & Brighten…)

Normal or slightly dry skin on your cheeks, with oily patches and the occasional breakout on your forehead or chin? You’ve probably got Combination skin.

Skin like the Sahara? Patches of dry or flaky skin? If your complexion is feeling tight or flaky then it’s likely you have Dry Skin. (Check out Nourish & Hydrate.)

Skin pink and flushed or easily irritated? Skin = Sensitive. (Did someone say Calm & Soothe?)

Not oily, dry or prone to flakiness? Lucky you because your skin sounds ‘Normal’ but don’t be fooled into thinking that means your skin doesn’t need love! Address your skin concerns as opposed to your skin type.

How should I layer my skincare?

Confused about which order to apply your products? Here are some basic rules for how to get the most out of your routine.

  1. Cleanser (Go for a light cleanse in the morning and a double cleanse at night.)
  2. After cleansing, treat skin with a Toner based on your specific concern – hydrating, soothing or brightening – and prep skin for the rest of your routine.
  3. Although they can be hydrating, Serums should be chosen to tackle specific skin concerns. Redness, uneven skin tone or pigmentation? Serums are your new best friend.
  4. Once your skin has been cleansed, prepped and treated, finish with Moisturiser to hydrate the skin and seal in moisture.
  5. If it’s the morning, always finish with SPF.

Hero ingredients for teen skin?

One size doesn’t fit all. And whilst breakouts are annoyingly part of most teen-skin journeys, everyone’s skin is different. For every person with hormonal breakouts, there’s someone else contending with skin that’s dry as a bone. Glow Hub understands that everyone’s skin is different and has different needs throughout the day.

Exfoliating salicylic acid and bacteria-battling tea tree oil are a winning combo when it comes to tackling spots. The Glow Hub Zit Zap Wand combines both with papaya extract, in a super-handy wand that can be applied on the go. But even oily skin needs hydration, so don’t neglect your moisturiser. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our skin and is one of the most powerful ingredients when it comes to keeping skin well nourished. You can find hyaluronic acid in Glow Hub’s Nourish & Hydrate range alongside peach extract and coconut water.

What creates puffiness under the eyes and how can I treat it best?

A lack of sleep, allergies, that time of the month, fluid retention… puffy eyes can be caused by a whole host of things.

So, what can you do about it? Here are our quick fire tips and tricks for banishing the bags…

  • Nothing says panda eye like 2 hours’ sleep. Get those zzz’s!
  • Skin looks and feels plump when it is well hydrated. Salt naturally draws moisture from our bodies, so eat less of it.
  • Go for brightening, energising caffeine (in your skincare of course, keep the coffee at a sensible number…)
  • Hydrate. Hydrate. (in your cup *and* on your face)
  • Cool and soothe for instant de-puffing. Apply a cold compress, a slice of chilled cucumber or even an ice-cold spoon.

Why is my skin red and what can I do about it?

Glow Hub

Redness can be caused by all manner of things and can be temporary or more long-lasting, caused by external factors, or something internal. If you suffer from rosacea for example, it’s best to speak to a professional to understand what products will help. Changes in temperature, weather conditions, or a strong sesh in the gym can all bring a pink tinge to your skin. Some ingredients may also cause redness, but this is not automatically cause for concern.

If a product or ingredient has irritated your skin or is causing discomfort, it’s best to stop using it. Stick to products formulated to be gentle and nourishing to skin, that utilise ingredients to help strengthen the skin barrier, such as anti-inflammatory jojoba and omega-rich hemp seed oil.

How do I know if my skin is dry or dehydrated?

Well, technically, your skin could be both!

Dry skin is a skin type, caused by a lack of natural oil in the skin, whereas dehydrated skin is a skin condition, that is caused by a lack of water in the skin.

Anyone and everyone, no matter their skin type can suffer from skin dehydration if their skin is lacking in moisture. This can be the result of not drinking enough water, heating, air conditioning or exposure to the sun or cold temperatures. Basically, anything that could result in a diminished water content within the skin. Dehydrated skin might feel tight and dry, BUT confusingly, might still look oily or suffer breakouts. Dry skin lacks oil because it produces less sebum than ‘normal’ skin. This is usually down to genetics but can be worsened by external factors. If your skin feels itchy, flaky, dull or easily irritated, you could have dry skin.
