In Conversation with Alpha-H

In Conversation with Alpha-H

By M Borriero

Today we speak to Charlotte Clague, Retail Training and Education Manager of Alpha-H, award-winning Australian skincare brand pioneering corrective and preventative formulas. She will talk us through the transformative results of Alpha-H’s award-winning Liquid Gold - a staple for beauty enthusiasts and industry elite.

Glycolic Acid Alpha H Gold

What is Liquid Gold, and who would you recommend this product to?

Liquid Gold is our original, cult favourite exfoliating treatment with 5% Glycolic Acid. It is formulated at a uniquely low pH of 2.8-3.0 which takes the skin out of its comfort zone to build resilience, exfoliating away dull and dead surface cells and boosting collagen production to reveal a brighter, more radiant complexion.

Liquid Gold is suitable for all skin types and works to tackle a wide range of concerns so really is great for everybody! If you’re struggling with uneven texture and tone, pigmentation, fine lines or breakouts, Liquid Gold is perfect for you.

Activate. Accelerate. Advocate. Your 3 pillars for healthy skin. How do we become consistent with our skincare routine?

It takes around 28 days for your skin to go through a full turnover cycle, so it’s important to stick with new products for at least this time in order to see significant results. Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated, find a routine that not only suits your skin needs but that you also enjoy using, and once you start seeing results being consistent comes easily!

What can we do for enlarged and visible pores?

Enlarged or visible pores are completely normal and very common, especially in those with an oilier skin type. Be sure to begin your routine with a pH balanced cleanser to maintain a healthy skin barrier and using a product with Salicylic Acid will help to keep excess oil at bay, reducing the appearance of enlarged pores.

Concerning anti-ageing, can you combine Glycolic Acid products in the day with retinoids during the night?

Alpha H Vitamin A Serum Retinol

Every skin is different, some may be able to tolerate using both and others won’t. My advice is always to start off slowly introducing accelerating acids just 2 – 3 times per week and gradually build your skin’s tolerance. We generally advise to keep both Glycolic Acid and Retinol products within your evening routine, so using these on alternating evenings works well – for example, using Alpha-H Liquid Gold on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening, while adding our Alpha-H Vitamin A Serum with 5% Retinol to your Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. It’s important to listen to your skin, if it becomes stressed or irritated, strip your product usage back for a week or two and allow your skin to recover before slowly reintroducing.

What skincare routine would you recommend for a sun damaged complexion?

Alpha H Protection Plus Daily SPF 50

Pigmentation and sun damage are some of the most difficult concerns to tackle, but exfoliation is key! Removing dull surface cells can help to gradually reduce the appearance of pigmentation and sun spots over time, stimulating skin renewal and allowing fresh new cells to come to the surface. Vitamin C and Retinoids are excellent for tackling pigmentation so using products like our Alpha-H Vitamin C Paste with 10% L-Absorbic Acid every day and using our Alpha-H Beauty Sleep Power Peel on alternate evenings to Liquid Gold, will be a great start.

And of course, it’s no use trying to fix existing damage if you’re continuing to allow more to occur – using an SPF daily to protect your skin from damaging UV rays is non-negotiable, especially if pigmentation is your particular concern.

How do we transition our skincare routine from autumn to winter?

Cooler temperatures mean reduced humidity and increased dryness in the air, paired with blasting heating and harsher weather conditions which can greatly affect your skin’s moisture levels and cause dehydration. Start with a creamy pH balanced cleanser like our Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser to calm and soothe skin stress while protecting the skin’s delicate barrier, and up your moisture levels by switching to a richer moisturiser such as our Alpha-H Essential Hydration Cream to lock in more moisture. And of course, it goes without saying that damaging UV rays don’t hide away during winter, so continue to use a daily SPF to protect your skin.

What makes Alpha-H stand out?
