Hi Karen, what inspired you to create SEAMS? How did you start it and when?
40 years in the fashion and beauty business leave your hands needing help! In 2012 I was at the London College of Fashion and my hands became so dry and sore that it was difficult to work. I needed a hand cream to use throughout the day that could heal and moisturise, but at the same time that wasn’t greasy. I couldn’t find one so… I created SEAMS. Named Seams as I was sewing at the time I had the idea.
How did you get into the beauty industry?
When I first left school, I had a job at Lancôme selling in store. I really learnt the business from the ground up. Hands on experience is the best you can get.
Have you faced any challenges along the way? If so, how did you deal with them?
Every day is a challenge, but it can equally be rewarding! I think the hardest thing was working from home alone, but I have met some wonderful people along the way who have supported me.
What can you tell us about SEAMS ingredients?
When I was sitting with the formulator, we were discussing what to use in the cream. I knew I wanted Shea Butter to soothe and Macadamia nut oil to restore. The formulator then suggested other 8 ingredients to choose from… I couldn’t choose so we added them all! I can say with confidence that Seams really does everything you need for your skin.
Macadamia Nut Oil, Rosehip Oil, Shea Butter, Allantoin, Hydrolysed Keratin to help nails, Pro-vitamin B5, Lavender Oil, Swiss Garden Cress, Oat Beta-Glucan and a Biomimetic Lipid Complex which is a bespoke mixture of 3 natural oils that help lock in moisture and mimics the lips of your skin to lock in moisture and protect.
Winter isn't the only time when hands get dry and damaged. What can we do to take care of our hands in the summertime?
In summertime hands will feel especially dry and tight at night, perspiring takes the water from our skin, being out in the elements, gardening touching sand just zaps the moisture. There’s very little that can surgically be done on the hands, the skin is thinner there than any other part of the body and your hands are continually open to the elements. That’s why we have added Swiss Garden Cress into Seams Hand Cream, rich in sulforaphane known to help even skin tone and brighten the skin.
