Salicylic acid is the one exfoliant that's oil-soluble, which is the whole reason it exists in skincare. Where other acids work across the surface, salicylic can travel into an oily pore lining and loosen what's sitting there – making it the go-to for skin that looks congested, shiny or rough with visible blackheads.
You'll find it across cleansers, toners, serums and targeted gels, usually between 0.5% and 2%. Which format you choose matters more than the percentage: a cleanser gives brief contact and suits sensitive skin, while a leave-on serum does considerably more work. Part of our active skincare range.
