This week we'll delve into Louise Macnab's journey to the creation of JERMS and the science behind the Daily Gut formula. Keep reading if you've been curious about how your gut affects your overall health and want to learn more about how to support it today.
JERMS comes from a deeply personal place. I previously worked for years as a corporate lawyer and lack of a work/life balance led me to burn out, suffering from chronic stress induced gut issues (SIBO, leaky gut, acne, chronic fatigue, anxiety).
My research into finding appropriate treatments and the practitioners I met along the way led me to discover the vital role that gut health plays in all aspects of our overall health, including mental wellbeing.
It floored me that the bacteria in our guts could have such a significant impact on our bodies and daily wellbeing!
So I created JERMS and set out on our mission to change bacteria’s bad rep by redefining how we think and feel about gut health.
I wanted the brand to be fun and playful but there’s still an important message we want to convey...
Due to the obsessively sanitary nature of modern existence, bacteria’s been portrayed as the ‘villain’ and received a pretty bad rap.
But in fact, we’re made up of bacteria - our bodies contain at least as much bacteria as human cells! Most of our bacteria live in our gut microbiome and do so much for us - they help digest food, regulate our immune system, improve our mood, stabilise weight, remove environmental toxins and more!
That’s why at JERMS, we believe that improving our gut health by nurturing our good bacteria is key to achieving both optimal physical and mental health. It’s time to celebrate all that bacteria do for us!
So Daily Gut’s all natural 4-in-1 formula contains probiotics, prebiotic fibre, digestive enzymes and organic superfoods and vitamins.
The inspiration came when I was suffering from digestive issues and was advised to take 4 different kinds of supplements just for my gut. Not only was this super inconvenient and enjoyable but it also ended up being very costly!
I longed for an effective and high quality, all-in-one solution.
So, along with a team of experts, we created an all natural 4-in-1 supplement combining all the key components that your Gut Microbiome needs to flourish in 1 supplement.
It’s also certified high in fibre, vegan, gluten free and suitable for those following a low-fodmap diet!
Absolutely. It was so important to me that when we stated that the product was ‘all natural’ we really meant alllll natural. So there’s no binders, fillers, gums, additives, sweeteners etc.etc.
Just our ten natural ingredients and that’s it.
All our ingredients are ethically sourced and wherever possible, we’ve chosen to use organic ingredients - they’re proven to be more nutrient-rich and better absorbed by the body. Plus, organic farming practices are more sustainable and increase the richness of the soil microbiome.
Some of our key ingredients include Bromelain, a group of digestive enzymes found naturally in pineapple. Studies have shown that Bromelain can help reduce inflammation in the gut and help reduce constipation, gas and bloating. It’s also been shown to help restore the lining of the gut and heal tissues within the digestive tract which made it an essential ingredient in my own healing.
There’s also Organic Lemon Balm, a favourite of mine due to its mind/body benefits which make it great for addressing IBS symptoms. It’s an anti-spasmodic which means it helps muscles relax. These anti-spasmodic effects are believed to be due to its ability to influence GABA (a neurotransmitter that plays a role in inhibiting nerve activity and promoting relaxation).
When the muscles in our stomach and across our body relax, they send a signal to our nervous system that everything’s ok and it, too, can relax and let go.
As usual, nature provides us with the best medicine!
Your gut is the foundation of everything.
Research shows that changes in the composition of our gut bacteria correlate with a huge range of health issues all the way from depression and anxiety (gut-brain axis) to acne (gut-skin axis) and even asthma (gut-lung axis). It all starts with the gut!
For me, going back to that mind/body connection is really important as the gut and the brain are inextricably linked.
So by taking care of your mental health you're also taking care of your gut health and vice versa.
Personally, I love spending time in nature - even if it’s just a stroll in my local park, I can feel my stress levels dissipate.
Plus, being outside naturally exposes your gut to a larger variety of bacteria which is essential for a healthy gut microbiome so it's an all round win!
