The New ScientiVist Collection for Mature Skin by Dr Irena Eris

The New ScientiVist Collection for Mature Skin by Dr Irena Eris

By B. Soberano

Repairing and regenerating processes in the skin are slowed down with age. The lack of endogenous collagen causes a rapid loss of skin firmness and density, as well as the formation of deep wrinkles. The skin becomes dry, dull and sallow. The antidote is to activate sirtuins – longevity genes – and remove damaged, malfunctioning cells. This week, the Dr Irena Eris team tells us how the latest formulas from the new ScientiVist range work using this antidote.

ScientiVist Dr Irena Eris

'Zombie' cells - or features of mature skin

Collagen is the main connective tissue protein, made up of amino acids (glycine, proline and hydroxyproline), and is produced by fibroblasts. The dermis is composed of as much as 70-85% collagen, which is responsible for its density, firmness, elasticity and smoothness – the hallmarks of young skin. Unfortunately, as early as 25 years of age, a negative balance of collagen production appears – on average, it decreases by 2% per year, and in the menopause, by up to 30-35%. In addition, the degradation process is intensified by external factors such as stress, pollution, UV rays and an unhealthy diet. Moreover, the fibres produced lose their quality with age – they become shorter, more twisted, they stretch and degrade faster. This is due to the weakening of the autophagy* process, i.e. replacement of old damaged cells with healthy ones. As a result, ‘zombie’ fibroblasts are formed in mature skin.

  • Young skin – healthy fibroblasts produce collagen and the damaged ones are removed and replaced by new ones.
  • Ageing skin – damaged fibroblasts do not produce collagen and are not removed from the body by the immune system; they weaken healthy fibroblasts, which results in reduced collagen synthesis.
  • Mature skin – damaged fibroblasts cause collagen degradation and destroy healthy fibroblasts; ‘zombie’ cells do not produce collagen and disrupt all cellular processes, contributing to skin dryness, thickening of the stratum and other signs of ageing.

The ‘zombie’ fibroblasts also send signal recognition particles that cause chronic inflammation in cells, which intensifies the ageing process.

The main problems of mature skin are:

  • multiple wrinkles and deep furrows
  • uneven skin structure
  • dryness, dehydration of the skin (in almost 100% of women of this age)
  • skin roughness
  • epidermal thinning (papyraceous skin)
  • thickening of the stratum corneum (and difficulty with absorbing cosmetics)
  • greyness, no shine, sallow colour

Sirtuins & Senolytics

The response to collagen degradation in mature skin is the stimulation of the juvenile genes and activating a senolytic mechanism in the skin, aimed at removing the ageing ‘zombie’ fibroblasts, without affecting other cells. For this purpose, two innovative scientific findings have been applied to the Dr Irena Eris ScientiVist range:

  • Senolytics are ‘intelligent’ substances that have the ability to selectively eliminate only the ageing cells (they are considered to be the future of medicine).
  • Sirtuins  are an enzymatic protein made of peptides that have the ability to mute ageing genes by activating repair processes, improving cellular metabolism and increasing resistance to stress. It is known that sirtuins are activated during a low-calorie diet (so-called sirtuin diet), rich in polyphenols, especially resveratrol (mainly present in red grapes and red wine)..

In ScientiVist range, two unique components are used to form an innovative SENOsirt complex:

Organic Alpine Rose Extract

A plant that grows in the high parts of the Alps. The plant is durable and resistant to difficult environmental factors, such as significant temperature differences or extremely high UV irradiation. The extract is responsibly sourced (Ecocert Greenlife certification) from plants harvested manually by local Swiss farmers. Research showed that plants that are exposed to environmental stress produce more protective, secondary metabolites (adaptogens) compared to those grown in greenhouse conditions.

How does Alpine rose extract work on the skin? It triggers the senolytic process and therefore selectively eliminates ‘zombie’ cells, counteracting collagen degradation and reducing the symptoms of skin ageing. However, it has no effect on healthy cells.

Botanic rice extract, rich in biopeptides with high biological activity

Activates the regenerative pathway in skin cells, programming them for intensive repair of damage and DNA protection, collagen production, synthesis of lipids and water binding factors (NMFs, lipids, ceramides), as well as intensive protection against inflammatory process. The activation of the SIRT-1 longevity gene prolongs skin cell life, accelerates regeneration and increases skin resistance to stress and external factors. Research has shown that biopeptides activate sirtuins more effectively than resveratrol.

The result is rejuvenated skin and reduction of all signs of ageing: hydration, firming, smoothing even deep wrinkles and improving its structure and colour.

In addition, the cosmetics are enriched with natural and biocompatible NNKT-8 oils, which provide the skin with valuable nutrients, relax the epidermal cells by improving the absorption of active substances from cosmetics, instantly soften the epidermis and make it more elastic. The effects are visible immediately!

ScientiVist

The series comprises four products for the daily care of mature skin – created according with well-ageing in mind. They intensively rejuvenate the skin, smoothen wrinkles, reduce skin roughness and dryness and restore its shine and healthy colour. With a floral fragrance composition of patchouli, caramel, rose, jasmine, orange blossom, with the addition of blackcurrant and bergamot, they provide sensory, pleasant sensations during application. The main component of all the products is the innovative SENOsirt complex, enriched with natural oils and additional plant extracts.
