Azelaic acid is one of the more unusual actives – a dicarboxylic acid found naturally in grains like barley and wheat, and unusually well tolerated for something that works on both tone and texture. It's valued for the appearance of uneven tone, visible redness and congested-looking skin, often by people who find other acids too demanding.
