Nowadays many companies work more and more towards being environmentally friendly: this can happen by choosing natural ingredients produced from renewable raw materials, going for a biodegradable packaging or simply improving the way the product is manufactured. Even small sustainable initiatives can make the difference.
Here, John Bell & Croyden showcases some examples of sustainable brands and the way they contribute to a more eco-friendly world.

REN Clean Skincare
Ren Clean Skincare latest initiative is a bottle made from 100% recycled plastic with 20% coming directly from the ocean. The British brand has announced its pledge to work toward Zero Waste by 2021 with the challenge to move in a more environmentally conscious direction, achieving this by following the mantra “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.
As an example, their new Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 Mattifying Face Broad Spectrum not only protects from blue light, UVB and UVA, but it has also the highest level of recycled packaging possible, not to mention the formula is vegan, cruelty-free and non-toxic for marine life, as it doesn’t contain oxybenzone. Their latest highly exciting launch is the Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser made from 50% PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic while the cap is made from 100% PCR, and like their other recycled plastic packaging this has been designed to be 100% recyclable.
Dr Hauschka
Sustainability is an essential part of Dr Hauschka philosophy. Most of their products are packaged in glass and aluminium jars and tubes (see the Soothing Cleaning Milk and the iconic Rose Day Cream). Dr Hauschka obtains plants, oils and waxes from controlled-organic cultivations where possible, and supports sustainability through ecological, socially-responsible partnerships they created.
ALBIVA
Launched in 2019, Albiva is a British revolutionary luxury and organic skincare brand created with the purest and freshest ingredients and designed to activate the skin’s natural ability to repair itself. Working with Gemmotherapy (an advanced branch of phytotherapy) Albiva’s innovative formula contains more than 50 high performance active ingredients such as peptides, marine algae extracts, 5 types of vitamins, botanical extracts. Beauty Kitchen donates 2% of sales to some charity partners such as the Plastic Soup Foundation, The Seahorse Trust and other sustainable causes.
BALADE EN PROVENCE
Balade en Provence takes waste seriously. The made in France organic, zero-waste, cosmetic company is committed to making a positive change by providing products that are better for people’s skin as well as for the environment. The range is artisanal and contains ethically sourced, rich natural ingredients such as French green clay, rosehip oil, grape seed oil, and coconut oil. They are also certified organic, vegan, and packaged in 100% compostable boxes.
Their motto is #MoveToSolid, as their mission is to replace liquid skin and hair products (that contain 85% water, preservatives, chemicals and plastic) with solid products, a natural and environmentally friendly alternative.
georganics
Go for plastic-free, biodegradable and recyclable oral care with Georganics. Their packaging is designed to produce no waste to avoid clogging up landfill sites using, wherever possible, ingredients that are ethically sourced and organic or food grade. The biodegradable handle of the toothbrush is made from certified FSC Beechwood from Switzerland.
GRACE & GREEN
Grace & Green combines innovative manufacturing with high quality natural and organic ingredients, with the goal to provide effective organic, biodegradable period products that are kind to both women’s bodies and the environment. Most of the tampons you can find on the market are chlorine-bleached and made from a combination of rayon, polyester and non-organic cotton which can be toxic for the body. The bottles have been fully recycled and recyclable since 1999, saving more than 340 tonnes of plastic. In 2019 the soap bar packaging became 100% plastic free, and recently the company has re-launched the 5L refill scheme.
KLORANE
Klorane is a French eco-friendly brand and the first one to receive the ECOCERT 26000 label, an assessment model developed by ECOCERT to enable organizations to evaluate their level of maturity in terms of social responsibility.
Founded by a pharmacist, Klorane began more than 50 years ago in the Southwest of France with the vision to combine both science and plant heritage to create effective and innovative products respecting nature and people. For more than 20 years, the botanical brand has been committed to the Klorane Botanical Foundation, which main purpose is the plant heritage protection around the world. Klorane tubes and bottles are made at least from 50% recycled plastic and the cardboard boxes from sustainable managed forests.
Dry shampoo is extremely convenient: it's the perfect on the go product that you can use anytime you need to wash or refresh your hair taking only 2 minutes of your time, adding volume and definition.
