- Lavender essential oil is herbal and fresh with a floral aroma. The name ‘lavender’ is linked to the Latin ‘lavare’ – to wash; its fresh smell is associated with cleanliness. In the early 20th century it was lavender oil which caused French perfume chemist Rene Gattefosse to create the term ‘aromatherapy’, after he used it to cure a laboratory burn on his hand.
- It is ideal in massage blends (in a carrier oil) to help soothe dry skin and minor grazes, as well as muscular aches and cramps. In a diffuser, it helps with sleep, relaxation and soothes anxiety. Lavender is sharp, sweet and floral and blends well with Lemon, Rosemary, Clary Sage, Sweet Orange, Neroli and Bergamot.
