After 30 years in the beauty industry, Daniel Collins founded Forest Spa Finland with a clear belief that true skin health begins within. Inspired by the restorative power of Finland’s forests and the resilience of Nordic adaptogens, the brand blends cultural ritual with modern science to support skin from the inside out.

In our conversation, Daniel shares how stress, nature and tradition shaped his philosophy, and why resilience is the future of beauty.

The brand focuses on adaptogens and “inside-out” skin wellness. How did you discover this approach, and why is it central to your philosophy?

After 30 years in the global beauty industry, I became increasingly aware of the disconnect between inner wellbeing and outer beauty. We were constantly chasing surface-level solutions, yet the root cause of so many skin concerns — stress — remained unaddressed.

During my time working with a Finnish health brand, I began researching adaptogens — plants known for supporting resilience. After three years studying the world’s most remarkable resilience-supporting plants, I found myself returning, quite poetically, to Finland — my husband’s homeland, where we had long gone to restore and reset from our high-stress lives.

What I always experienced there changed everything. A week in the Finnish forest restored me in a way that lasted for months. It wasn’t a quick fix; it was cell-deep replenishment. That feeling of carrying the forest within me became the foundation of FOREST SPA FINLAND — a way to internally immunise the skin and strengthen the body from within, every single day.

In what way did your personal experiences in Finnish nature influence the brand’s vision?

Finland is consistently ranked the happiest country in the world, and when you stand in the middle of its pristine forests — especially at our family summer cabin — you understand why. Breathing the cleanest air, swimming in crystal-clear lakes, and walking through woodland where bilberries and cloudberries grow wild underfoot, you feel something shift. There is a quiet strength in that landscape.

The forest ecosystem embodies resilience and wisdom. The plants that thrive there endure the longest, darkest winters and endless summer light, yet they adapt and flourish. Spending time at the cabin with family and friends showed me that restoration is not indulgence — it is essential.

That sense of carrying the forest’s calm and strength within you became the inspiration for Forest Spa Finland: a way to bottle that wild, resilient energy and bring it into everyday life.

How do you balance traditional Nordic wellness traditions with modern skincare science?

Nordic wellness traditions — sauna, forest bathing, time in nature — are deeply rooted in lived experience. They are not trends; they are cultural rituals that have supported wellbeing for generations.

Our role is to honour that heritage while applying modern scientific rigour. The adaptogenic plants we use — from rhodiola to bilberry and chaga — are naturally rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral compounds. Science allows us to extract and concentrate these properties responsibly and effectively.

We see tradition as wisdom, and modern science as the tool that allows us to deliver that wisdom in a potent, sustainable way.

How can modern lifestyles show up on the skin, and how can an inside-out approach help counteract that?

Modern life exposes us to pollution, radiation from screens, lack of sleep, long commutes and constant emotional stress. These pressures weaken the skin barrier, increase inflammation, accelerate ageing and reduce radiance.

The Nordic forests exist in stark contrast to that environment. They are pure, quiet and restorative.

An inside-out approach works because stress is not only external. By supporting the body internally with adaptogenic supplements, while simultaneously strengthening and protecting the skin barrier with topical antioxidant-rich formulas, we promote what I call natural immunity for the skin. When the body feels supported and resilient, that vitality radiates outward.

Can you give us insight into Nordic adaptogens and their role in supporting skin and wellbeing?

Nordic adaptogens are extraordinary because they survive and thrive in some of the harshest conditions on earth. From bilberries and pine to rhodiola and chaga mushrooms growing among native birch trees, these plants develop powerful protective compounds to endure environmental extremes.

Just as these plants weather long, dark winters and dramatic seasonal shifts, so too have the people of this region cultivated resilience — what the Finns call sisu.

In skincare, these adaptogens deliver antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-stress benefits that support barrier strength and longevity. In supplement form, they help the body adapt and recover. They are nature’s blueprint for resilience.

How would you define a Forest Spa ritual and what role does ritual play in everyday wellbeing?

A Forest Spa ritual follows the natural rhythm of the day — just as life does in Finland.

In the morning, our Nordic Light Revitalising Cleanser awakens and rebalances the skin, like forest air at dawn. A few drops of the Nordic Adaptogen Serum uplift and strengthen, preparing skin to face the day with resilience.

In the evening, the rhythm softens. The Nordic Dream Rejuvenating Cleanser removes the day gently, supporting recovery. The same Adaptogen Serum becomes grounding at night, restoring balance while skin renews.

At the centre is our Nordic Water Activator — a modern interpretation of löyly, the steam released and Birch leaves in a Finnish sauna. It transforms cleansing into a warm, immersive reset, encouraging a pause.

Ritual is powerful because it builds resilience gradually. In Finland, sauna and nature are not luxuries but daily practices that steady the body and mind.

FOREST SPA FINLAND brings that rhythm into modern life — morning uplift, evening grounding, and a daily moment of forest bathing calm you carry with you.
