With so many skincare brands focused on quick results and standout ingredients, it can be hard to know what really benefits your skin in the long run. Swissline takes a more thoughtful approach, rooted in understanding how the skin functions and how to support it over time, rather than trying to fix it overnight.

We're joined by Swissline's, Global Brand Director, Custodio Avo, who shares the philosophy behind the brand, from its focus on cellular longevity to the science shaping its formulas. He explains why strengthening the skin, supporting its natural processes, and thinking long-term are at the heart of achieving healthier, more resilient skin.

What is the core skincare philosophy behind Swissline?

Swissline is built on the philosophy of cellular longevity – the belief that skin is an organ not to be “corrected,” but strengthened. To help skin evolve over the years, skincare must “think” in terms of skin biology: barrier function, collagen production and gene expression.  Swissline formulas aim to leverage the skin’s intrinsic intelligence to maximise its repair capacity.

What makes it different from other luxury skincare brands?

Swissline differentiates itself on a fundamental level: while most brands highlight one or two functions around a hero ingredient, or promote a star product, we take a more holistic approach, focusing on cellular communication and creating multi-dimensional formulas thatthink like skin.

We favor skin-identical ingredients, peptides, mimetic growth factors, and signaling molecules designed to support repair functions using science-backed pathways. We believe that far too many luxury brands tend to focus on the rarity and exclusivity of the ingredients used, as opposed to what the skin really needs.

Our product development and formulation are informed by epigenetics; we select topical ingredients that may influence how skin cells express genes, particularly those related to aging, inflammation and repair.

Which ingredient or formula best represents the brand's innovation?

One distinctive innovation would be the concept of 360° Collagen, which serves as the base of all Cell Shock products. Collagen alone is not the innovation — the signaling ecosystem we’ve built around it is.

While most skincare brands treat collagen “flat” (= stimulate production), oftentimes overpromising what’s biologically possible... our 360° Collagen concept treats collagen as a dynamic network that benefits from support at multiple levels. The network consists of cellular signaling, fibroblast stimulation and NAD+ pathway support – these actions do not rely on collagen as a topical ingredient but instead focus on supporting communication pathways associated with collagen synthesis and matrix integrity.

Beyond stimulation, we aim to defend collagen against two of its most insidious aggressors: glycation, which stiffens and weakens fibers through sugar-induced crosslinking, and enzymatic degradation triggered by low-grade, silent inflammation.

We think you would be hard-pressed to find comparable products that care for skin like you care for yourself: completely. This is collagen support in full circle!

How do you balance the use of potent actives with skin tolerance and safety across diverse skin types?

Swissline achieves this through biomimetic precision rather than aggressive intervention. Skin-identical ingredients are key: amino acids, ceramides, squalane, ATP… high compatibility equals low irritation, as skin more readily recognises familiar biological components.

We prioritize regulation, rather than overstimulation, modulating inflammatory responses and preventing enzymatic degradation. Our cellular longevity philosophy walks hand in hand with the idea of tolerance and safety, as it is well documented that chronic irritation contributes to visible signs of skin aging rather than improving skin health.

Manufacturing in Switzerland also means having access to advanced pharmaceutical-grade innovations in delivery systems, biotechnology, and ways to optimize both stability and delivery, which together contribute to delivering well-tolerated and effective active ingredients.

How can Swissline formulas help protect skin against environmental stressors?

We approach environmental protection not as a superficial “shield,” but as a biological defense system. We incorporate molecules such as ectoin, which is known for its ability to help stabilize cellular membranes, maintain osmotic balance, and reduce dehydration-induced stress.

We also know that environmental stress rapidly depletes cellular energy, impairing repair; we address this by supporting ATP levels and barrier function recovery, both of which contribute to to optimal cellular performance.

Finally, you will find in many Swissline formulas components that support the skin’s endogenous antioxidant systems, including SOD and glutathione - two important intracellular antioxidants involved in protecting cells and assisting detoxification processes.

What’s your advice for someone building a Swissline skincare routine?

Start with your skin’s main need. Ask yourself: Do I need hydration? Do I worry about specific signs of aging or about an overall loss of vitality and glow? Is my skin sensitive or experiencing discomfort? These are merely examples – speaking with a skincare advisor can help clarify your priorities

Swissline works best when you focus on what your skin truly needs. Answering these questions should point you in the direction of a booster or serum, or a combination of both. Having chosen these, the right moisturizer and sun protection textures come next, where you will find everything from feather-light to cocooning creams.

As a brand we believe in using one or more targeted serums as your “core”. This is the heart of your routine, as Swissline serums work by supporting optimal skin function, not just visible appearance. There is even a specific serum for nighttime-only use, supporting overnight skin recovery so results are visible by morning.

Lastly, when you think seriously about skincare, think long-term. Swissline is about stronger, healthier skin over time, and not about quick fixes, which by definition correspond to superficial and temporary effects. It can be very tempting to chase such products, unfortunately, they won’t help when it comes to how your skin responds to time and daily life.
