In today’s ever-evolving world of aesthetics, where trends often move faster than science can support them, Dr Ivy stands apart with a philosophy grounded in both precision and artistry. With over two decades of experience in facial aesthetics and a global perspective on beauty, she has built a reputation for delivering results that are not only effective but elegantly natural.

As the founder of Dr Ivy Skincare, Dr Ivona Igerc is pioneering a new approach that bridges the gap between advanced clinical treatments and high-performance at-home skincare. From the cutting-edge role of exosomes in skin regeneration to the integration of light-based technologies, her work reflects a deep commitment to science-led innovation.

Your work combines science and artistry. How do you balance these aspects in your approach to treatments and products?

Whatever I do, I always have science as the foundation because firstly, I am a scientist, and I have been working in facial aesthetics for 26 years. Every treatment and product I develop must have a strong scientific background and be scientifically confirmed.

Then I combine that with artistry. Artistry is the final touch that I bring to both my clinical treatments and my products. It is about helping people look the best they can by optimising their own natural features, facial expressions and skin texture.

So, science gives the structure and the biological results, and artistry allows me to refine those results so that people look natural, balanced and truly like the best version of themselves.

For someone new to the term, how do you explain the role of exosomes in skin rejuvenation?

Exosomes are tiny biological messengers that transfer signals to your skin cells. They communicate directly with fibroblasts, which are the cells responsible for producing collagen, and they encourage them to produce younger and better-quality collagen.

At the same time, exosomes help reduce inflammation, reinforce the skin barrier and support overall skin health. When the skin barrier is stronger, trans-epidermal water loss is reduced, which means the skin stays better hydrated.

Overall, this improves the condition of the skin. You see better hydration, improved radiance and glow, and often a reduction in pigmentation.

This is also the science behind my own Dr. Ivy exosome skincare range. It is a simple 3 step process, where each application delivers 43.5 million exosomes, because this is the quantity we found is required to activate the skin’s regenerative processes and support collagen renewal at a cellular level.

Having practised in so many different countries, how has that international perspective changed your understanding of beauty?

Having practised in many different countries has given me a very unique perspective on beauty. I have worked with many different skin types and skin tones and I have also experienced the different cultural ideas of beauty.

Every country has its own concept of beauty, which is shaped culturally and sociologically, and also by the fashion trends of that particular place and time.

Living and working within those cultures gave me a strong understanding of what different patients are looking for. When someone comes to my clinic from another country I feel very confident treating them because I understand their aesthetic expectations and what their skin may need. That global experience gives me a unique perspective when designing treatments and skincare.

For someone deciding to invest in a laser treatment or an LED mask, what factors should guide that decision?

LED masks and laser technologies are actually two completely different approaches.

LED works through photobiomodulation, which is a field I have been working with since 2011 when I was researching how light can influence stem cells. In my Dr. Ivy AlphaPro LED Mask, we use three different wavelengths of light. Each wavelength stimulates different processes in the skin including collagen production, oxygenation and even angiogenesis, which is the creation of new blood vessels.

My Dr. Ivy AlphaPro Laser works in a different way. It combines three technologies (low level laser technology, radiofrequency and Electrical Muscle Stimulation or EMS) in one device.

Low level laser works directly on the mitochondria and ATP inside the cells and brings more energy into the deeper tissues. Radiofrequency helps tighten and rejuvenate the skin, while EMS stimulates the facial muscles which naturally weaken as we age.

By combining these technologies we can address multiple aspects of skin ageing at once and in just six minutes bring visible enhancement to the skin, especially when the skin is supported with regenerative skincare such as exosomes. We’ve seen that using the AlphaPro devices with the exosome skincare shows 2.7 times greater efficacy in visible results.

What common misconceptions about ageing or aesthetics do you encounter?

One of the biggest misconceptions I encounter in aesthetics is that people believe they can choose their own treatments and that one treatment will work the same for everyone.

In reality, aesthetic treatments must always be bespoke. They need to be tailored to an individual’s skin if you want truly powerful and excellent results.

Another misconception is that people think aesthetics should work like a sprint and deliver a quick fix. In reality, healthy skin requires discipline and consistency over time.

I often say that aesthetics is a journey because the skin is ageing every day. It is something that the patient and the practitioner work on together.

With access to some of the best technology in the world, what is the one skincare ritual you personally swear by every day?

After more than 26 years working in aesthetics with different skin types around the world, I always come back to the same conclusion. Less is often more, but the products need to be powerful.

You do not need ten steps every morning and ten steps every evening. What you need is a small number of highly effective products that can work deeper in the skin. They should help the skin produce younger and better quality collagen, protect the skin barrier and reduce inflammation, which is very important for skin longevity.

That is why I created my three-step Dr. Ivy skincare system. I wanted something simple but very efficient and stronger than traditional skincare.

My goal was to bridge the gap between clinical treatments and everyday skincare so that people can support real skin regeneration at home with a routine that is simple to follow.
