Hyaluronic acid is a humectant – it holds many times its own weight in water, which is why skin looks plumper and more cushioned after using it. Despite the name it doesn't exfoliate and won't sting; it's one of the gentlest things you can put on your face.
The one thing worth knowing: hyaluronic acid draws water, so it needs sealing in with a moisturiser afterwards, and it works best applied to slightly damp skin.
